Two WA winners at national property awards

A beachside community north of Perth and a housing development in the heart of Rockingham have achieved national recognition at the 2018 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Awards. Alkimos Beach, developed by LandCorp and Lendlease, was presented with the EPM Projects Award for Best Master Planned Community.

Community housing leader Access Housing took home the GOUGH Recruitment Award for Best Affordable Housing Development for Haven at Rockingham.

“Alkimos Beach is a testbed for some of the most innovative environmental and social sustainability projects in Australia,” says the Property Council’s Chief Executive Ken Morrison.

“Lendlease and LandCorp achieved Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star – Communities rating for a host of landmark initiatives, including the nation’s first community-level battery storage trial and an interactive program that encourages domestic energy conservation,” Mr Morrison says.

“Lendlease and LandCorp have collaborated with Surf Life Saving WA to deliver beach safety education. They also worked with traditional owners to design a community park and to stage events where locals can learn about the heritage and culture of Indigenous people.

“It is no surprise that Alkimos Beach’s approach to sustainability is now being replicated in other developments around Australia,” Mr Morrison adds.

Haven, in the south-west suburb of Rockingham, delivered affordable accommodation for seniors, families and couples on the social housing waiting list, as well as apartments for sale on the open market.

The development comprises 32 properties over two complexes. Haven on the Park Apartments consists of 28 apartments and Haven Mews Townhouses is a group of four townhouses. Three commercial premises offer opportunities for business owners and provide local jobs.

“Haven is an outstanding example of effective collaboration between government, the community sector and the development industry to deliver affordable housing, improve lives and drive positive social outcomes,” says RLB’s Managing Director NSW, Matthew Harris.

RLB has partnered with the Property Council of Australia to present the Innovation & Excellence Awards program since its inception in 1982.

The 2018 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Award winners were announced on Friday 11 May 2018 at a gala dinner at the International Convention Centre Sydney.
